SEC-Registered Trustees in Nigeria
Every trustee registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Nigeria: 36 in total, 36 currently shown as active, straight from SEC's register of capital market operators.
When you invest in a Nigerian mutual fund or any pooled investment scheme, a trustee stands between you and the fund manager. The trustee represents unit holders collectively, monitors the manager’s compliance with the trust deed and SEC rules, and escalates material breaches. It does not pick investments or hold your money day to day (that is the manager and the custodian), but it is the organisation whose job is to notice when something is wrong.
That only works if the trustee itself is registered and in good standing with SEC Nigeria. This page lists all 36 trustees on SEC’s register of capital market operators, so you can confirm that the trustee named in your fund’s trust deed or factsheet actually exists, is registered for trusteeship, and is shown as active.
Note the distinction: these are SEC-registered trustees for capital market schemes. “Incorporated trustees” registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) are a different thing entirely: that is the legal form used by NGOs, churches, and associations, and it says nothing about capital market authorisation.

Frequently asked questions
What does a trustee actually do for my investment?+
The trustee represents all unit holders collectively. It monitors the fund manager’s compliance with the trust deed, offer documents, and SEC rules, and escalates material breaches or operator changes. It does not make daily investment decisions, guarantee returns, or prevent every loss.
Is my money held by the trustee?+
No. Scheme assets are held by a custodian, separate from the fund manager. The trustee’s role is oversight: checking that the manager and custodian operate within the fund’s governing documents.
What if a trustee’s status is not shown as ACTIVE?+
SEC’s register shows an account status for each operator. 36 of the 36 trustees listed here are currently shown as active. A different status is not automatically a scandal, but it is a reason to ask questions before relying on that trustee’s oversight.
Is an SEC-registered trustee the same as CAC “incorporated trustees”?+
No. Incorporated trustees under CAC is a legal structure for non-profits, associations, and religious bodies. The trustees on this page are capital market operators registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission to act as trustees for investment schemes, bond issues, and similar structures.
How current is this list?+
The list is from SEC Nigeria’s public register of capital market operators. A trustee that is removed from SEC’s register drops off this page on the next update.
Educational use only. Registration status is useful for verification but is not investment advice or an endorsement of any operator.
